Additional Hagerstown Youth Hockey Opportunities

Youth Hockey Starts Here!

Wayne Gretzky once said "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take," so why not give your child a shot at discovering hockey?

Hagerstown Ice and Sports Complex offers a number of introductions to skating and hockey:

Try Hockey For Free

Experience hockey at no cost. We have multiple events per season, and some are for girls only! You sign up and show up - we do the rest.

HISC also participates in USA Hockey's Try Hockey for Free held each year in November and February.  Follow the link in the title to the HISC website for more information.

CAPS' Learn to Play

Participants will learn the basics of hockey and skating through drills and on-ice coaching.  Experienced youth coaches will be on hand to help deliver instruction.

Recreational Youth Hockey

Focus on basic skating and hockey skills; all aspects of hockey will be incorporated into the sessions. It's not uncommon for a new player to take this class more than once before the basic skating skills are mastered.

Power Skating: Advanced and Beginner classes

Advanced classes are held at 6:00 PM on Mondays , and will focus on edge control, explosiveness, transitions, agility and endurance.   This session is geared towards advanced skaters with prior travel or high school experience.

Beginner classes are held at 6:00 PM on Mondays, and will focus on skating forwards and backwards, cross-overs, stopping and edge control.  This session is geared towards beginners and rec level players looking to develop better skating habits.

Full Equipment is required.

Stick and Shoot

Open to all ages and abilities to assist in developing players shooting techniques.  This is an open skate specific to hockey players.
Typically held on Mondays (3 - 5 pm) and Fridays  (4 - 4:50 pm).
Players 18 and under must be in full gear.
